James Houser, MSN, APRN, CNP, NRP, CFRN, CMTE is the President and CEO of UPMC's Center for Emergency Medicine of Western Pennsylvania (CEM). Jim brings over 20 years of industry experience and a diverse background in the field of critical care transport.
CEM is world leader in Emergency Medicine in care, education, and research. It accomplishes it’s mission with over 400 employees including pilots, mechanics, aviation and communication specialists, educators and administrators. The education team trains over 60 paramedics and over 300 EMTs per year. The organization supports UPMC and University of Pittsburgh Researchers, who continue to lead the EM research community. CEM is a certified Federal Aviation Administration Direct Air Carrier, which is rare among medical helicopter programs. Its infrastructure is like that of a small airline. STAT MedEvac, the critical care transport arm of CEM, operates 18 helicopters bases across five states and 4 ground units, providing over 13,500 critical care transports each year.
