Kristen Price, MD, FCCP, has served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Critical Care & Respiratory Care at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas since 2004.
Dr. Price graduated in 1981 from The University of Tampa with majors in Marine Science, Biology and Chemistry. Price’s mentor at UT was Dr. Richard Gude, who supervised many classes on the Bios, UT’s research boat. Despite her love of the marine sciences, Price began having serious thoughts of pursuing a career in medicine in her sophomore year. She graduated 1981 and was named Outstanding Female Graduate by faculty at The University of Tampa. She then returned to her native New Orleans and attended Louisiana State University School of Medicine.
Dr. Price did her Internal Medicine Residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, where she was named Resident of the Year by the faculty and staff. She then served one year as Chief Medical Resident, and subsequently completed a combined Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship.
In 1992, she joined the faculty of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, one of the most prestigious cancer centers in the world. Under her leadership, cancer patients with life threatening illnesses are treated in a 52-bed state of the art, combined Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Unit. These critically ill patients receive therapies such as life support, treatment for possible life-threatening effects of chemotherapy, radiation, and infections, recovery from surgery, etc.
She is also a contributing author in "Legends and Legacies, Personal Journeys of Women Physicians and Scientists at MD Anderson Cancer Center" and co-author and co-editor of “Oncological Critical Care”, First English Edition.
