He is the president-elect of CHEST, the American College of Chest Physicians. He is a member of the editorial board of Critical Care Medicine and participated as a Surviving Sepsis Guidelines panelist in 2016 and 2020. He is a Senior Medical Advisor to the Solving Sepsis program in the US Department of Health and Human Services' Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority and is a panelist for the NIH COVID-19 Treatment Guidelines.
