Dr. Joanna Dionne MD MSc PhD is an Assistant Professor, Divisions of Critical Care and Gastroenterology, in the Department of Medicine at McMaster University. She is a clinician-scientist at the Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
Dr. Dionne obtained a Bachelor of Nursing Degree from the University of New Brunswick and was a Registered Nurse for the College of Nurses of Ontario. She obtained her Medical Degree from the DeGroote School of Medicine and holds a MSc in Health Research Methodology (HRM) also from McMaster. She completed her postgraduate training in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterolog and Critical Care at McMaster University. Dr. Dionne is completed her PhD and the Clinician Investigator Program, also at McMaster University.
Dr. Dionne has served as a guideline methodologist for multiple national and international guidelines for the GUIDE Grou including : impact of alcohol in liver disease g, stress ulcer prophylaxis, transfusions guideline in bleeding in critically ill patients, transfusions guideline in non-bleeding critically ill patients and as a guideline methodologist for the GUIDE Group. This work has been done for the Canadian Blood Services, Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the European Society for Intensive Care Medicine.
She is the Principal Investigator (PI) of the international prospective cohort study “Diarrhea, Interventions, Consequences and Epidemiology in the Intensive Care Unit (DICE-ICU) Study”. She was named a DeGroote Scholar during her graduate training and has received peer reviewed funding from Physicians’ Services Incorporated (PSI), the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology (CAG), and the Regional Medical Associates (RMA). Dr. Dionne has been awarded an Early Career Award from the Department of Medicine at McMaster University.
