COVID-19 has resulted in an increase in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Defining specific ARDS phenotypes may allow patients to respond to precision management strategies. The role of IL-8 in lung inflammation and disease pathogenesis might suggest a possible new therapeutic target to modulate the hyperinflammatory response in ARDS.
