This session seeks to enlighten critical care practitioners on epigenetic mechanisms that determine recovery of immunostasis after acute critical illness. Speakers will highlight research developments on trained immunity as a new strategy to improve perioperative outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

Define mechanisms that determine trajectories after critical care illness with emphasis on nucleic acid mechanisms leading to the permanent reprogramming of the immunometabolome
Discuss potential gene-oriented treatments aimed at improving recovery from critical care insult
Describe the role of toll-like receptor 4 agonists as a pathway to train innate immunity to improve organ protection
Describe the impact of toll-like receptor 4 agonist-induced trained immunity on protection against acute gram-negative and -positive infections
