Dr. Heidi Smith MD, MSCI is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics from Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She practices pediatric cardiac anesthesiology and studies ICU delirium in the pediatric medical and cardiac intensive care units at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital. She recently obtained RO1 funding through the NHLBI to study the impact of sedation practices among critically ill infants and children requiring mechanical ventilation on the development and duration of delirium and long term cognitive impairment following discharge to home. She serves on the Board for the American Delirium Society, past Co-chair of the ICU Liberation SCCM Committee, and currently the Co-Chair of the SCCM Pediatric Taskforce on Sedation, Analgesia, and Delirium.
