Dr. Shari Simone is the Advanced Practice Provider Manager for Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Maryland Medical Center and a professor in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. She has also been a pediatric critical care nurse practitioner for over 25 years. Dr. Simone’s primary clinical interests are in pediatric pain, sedation and delirium and has contributed to the pediatric evidence in these areas. Dr. Simone has served on several national committees including with the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board and the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners on the Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Advisory Council to define the pediatric acute care specialty, competencies, curriculum, certification requirements, and national certification exam and has nationally recognized expertise in developing advanced practice provider models of practice. Dr. Simone has also served on several SCCM taskforces and most recently was a contributing author of the 2022 Clinical Practice Guidelines on Prevention and Management of Pain, Agitation, Neuromuscular Blockade, and Delirium in Critically Ill Pediatric Patients.
