Dr. Peta Alexander graduated from the University of Queensland School of Medicine before training at The Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne (Australia), Cambridge University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (United Kingdom), and Boston Children’s Hospital, Boston (USA) in Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Intensive Care Medicine, and advanced heart failure and mechanical circulatory support. She is currently Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and Staff Physician in the Department of Cardiology of Boston Children’s Hospital. She is Medical Lead for Mechanical Circulatory Support in the CICU, with a focus on optimizing support strategies for patients with congenital and acquired heart disease. In her clinical role, Dr. Alexander strives for program-wide excellence in inter-disciplinary, goal-concordant, family-centered care. She integrates bedside teaching into all aspects of her role and contributes to formal teaching programs for Harvard Medical School students, fellows in the Cardiology Department as well as the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. She holds leadership positions in multiple professional organizations, including Treasuer of the Board of Directors of the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO), Co-Chair of PediECMO (a PALISI-ELSO Collaborative), Co-Chair of Cardiovascular PODIUM (an SCCM-PALISI consensus-finding project), Co-Chair of PEACE (Pediatric ECMO Anticoagulation CollaborativE), and is a representative on the Scientific Committees of PALISI and the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Collaborative (PC4).
