Matthew Wanat is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy, with a specialty in critical care & cardiology. He completed his Doctor of Pharmacy at Northeastern University in Boston, MA, and subsequently completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency at Houston Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. He practices as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in the Cardiac ICU at the Michael E. DeBakey VA. He also serves as the Program Director for the Fellowship in Academic Pharmacy at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy. He has served in various leadership roles in SCCM including as past-president of the SCCM Texas Chapter, and current Chair of the Undergraduate Education Committee for SCCM. He was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM) in 2018. His research interests include sedation/analgesia, prescription drug misuse, optimizing anticoagulation, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.
