Dr. Patel is Board Certified in Critical Care Medicine & General Surgery. He graduated from Bombay University (India) & completed Surgical Residency in General Surgery in New York, and Fellowship in Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery from Wayne State University. In academic practice for 35 years. Joined Cook County Hospital in 1986 as an associate program director overseeing training of fellows in Surgical Critical Care. In association with Rush University developed program of Surgical endocrinology at Cook County Hospital and was chief of section of Surgical Endocrinology and program director of Fellowship in Surgical Endocrinology at this site till his retirement. Oversaw Surgical Skill lab for medical students at RUSH university and has been closely associated with graduate and post graduate education in the Surgery and Critical Care. Published and presented research work several national and international meetings and wrote book chapters. After retirement from active surgical practice continued as e-Intensivist in Tele ICU program in the Department of Defense (Veterans Administration Hospital) and Advocate-Aurora Health Care System. He has extensive experience in tele Critical Care and is actively involved in education, development of national policies and guidelines for Tele Critical Care. He is currently the education lead for Tele Critical Care Committee of SCCM. Member of NETCCN (National Emergency Tele Critical Care Network) and Tech Watch review team for TATRC (Telemedicine and Advanced Technology research center for Department of Defense, USA) He is active in community care and charity organizations and currently serves as the National Coordinator for Medical Services for BAPS Charities a UN recognized NGO with over 100 centers in US involved in humanitarian activities. Represents BAPS Medical services in White House partnership program with faith-based organizations. His hobbies involve listening to music, sports, playing Sitar and Hiking. Recently had hiked to Mount Everest Base camp.
