Samuel Mandell, MD, MPH, FACS is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in the comprehensive care of the burn-injured patient, trauma surgery, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and surgical critical care.
Dr. Mandell earned his medical degree at University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He received advanced training through a trauma research fellowship, a burn surgery fellowship, and a surgical critical care fellowship at Harborview Medical Center.
In addition, he earned his Master of Public Health in epidemiology at the University of Washington.
Certified by the American Board of Surgery in general surgery and critical care, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2021.
Dr. Mandell serves as Burn Section Chief and director of the Parkland Regional Burn Center.
He leads the national Burn Care Quality Platform Dashboard Work Group and serves on several national committees, including the American Burn Association Quality and Burn Registry Committee. In addition, he is a Surgical Education and Self-Assessment Program (SESAP) 18 advanced author.
Dr. Mandell is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma. He is also a member of the American Burn Association, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
