Dr. Vicki L Montgomery received her medical degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in May 1985. She completed a General Pediatric Residency at the Medical University of South Carolina where she also served as chief resident. (July 1985 - June 1989) before moving to Louisville Kentucky to complete a Pediatric Critical Care Medicine fellowship at the University of Louisville School of Medicine (1989-1992). In July 1992, she joined the faculty of the UofL School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics where she is a tenured professor and Chief of the Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Division. From 1995 until 2013 she served as the Medical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Norton Children’s Hospital. Dr. Montgomery serves as the Pediatric Patient Safety Officer and the Chief of CARE Innovation for Norton Children’s Hospital. In 2013, Norton Children’s Hospital joined the Solutions for Patient Safety network. Dr. Montgomery is the program director for Norton Children’s Hospital and leads activities related to harm reduction, maximizing outcomes, error prevention, high reliability and safety culture. In addition to these local activities, she has participated in and chaired a number of national initiatives and activities related to patient safety and quality. Dr. Montgomery has served on two national panels charged with developing national pediatric safety and quality measures. Through the years she has served and chaired committees in the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
