Dr. Charlotte Thomas DNP-DNES, RN, AGACNP-BC, CCRN is the Chief of Advanced Practice for Critical Care Medicine at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Chula Vista, California near the US/Mexico border and has been a Critical Care Nurse Practitioner for nearly a decade. She enlisted in the US Army after high school and was trained initially as a ground combat medic before further advancement to flight paramedic status logging more than 850 hours in aerial flight around the world. After honorably leaving the US military, she used her GI Bill benefits to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida and spent more than 10 years at the bedside in various ICU settings. She returned to school and concurrently earned both Doctor of Nursing Practice (Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner) and Doctor of Nursing Education Sciences degrees from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. Dr. Thomas has special interests in disaster medicine and response, healthcare for underserved and underrepresented populations, and the use of acute care Advanced Practice Providers in critical access and rural hospitals.
