A. Ian Wong, MD, PhD, is a Medical Instructor in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine at Duke University. His primary field of research leverages electronic medical record (EMR) structured data to derive predictive insights and develop equitable predictive clinical decision support (CDS) systems. Most recently, his work in health equity and EMR data led to a publication in JAMA Open on racial and ethnic discrepancies in pulse oximetry and their effects on clinical outcomes. He has also published a predictive CDS algorithm, PARFAIT, which continuously predicted risk of needing advanced respiratory support from structured EHR data.
His parallel work in ARF also has led to development of a novel communication device for noninvasive ventilation/bilevel ventilation, SPEAX, which led to an RCT published in CHEST and three patents, and a startup company, Ataia Medical.
