Gavin H. Harris, MD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Emory University, holding appointments in critical care medicine and infectious diseases. His professional focus lies in disaster preparedness and biosecurity and he is the Medical Director for the Emory University Serious Communicable Diseases Program - Project ECHO, as well as a staff physician for the Emory University Serious Communicable Diseases Unit. Additionally, Dr. Harris serves on multiple COVID-19 clinical protocol development committees and is a founding member of the Emory Critical Care/Infectious Diseases Team (ECRID). He is also an alumni fellow at the Johns Hopkins University/Bloomberg School of Public Health's Center for Health Security Emerging Leaders in Biosecurity Initiative (ELBI) as well as an Adult Care Subject Matter Expert with the National Emerging Special Pathogens Training and Education Center (NETEC). Prior to coming to Emory, he completed clinical fellowships in infectious diseases and critical care medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. There, he helped design surge plans for intensive care unit preparedness at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic and crafted and implemented emergency protocols for various emergencies. Dr. Harris holds unrestricted medical licenses in New York and Georgia and is board certified in internal medicine, infectious diseases, and critical care medicine. He completed residency and a chief residency in internal medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City and received a BA in Military History and Music from Columbia University. A former athlete, he is also a USA Boxing certified physician and team physician for the New York Athletic Club Boxing Team in New York City as well as a physician member of the Surfer's Medical Association. He has a passion for surfing and watersports bordering on obsession that has led to travel all over the world in search of the perfect wave.
