Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Vanessa Mazandi, MD is a 2nd year fellow in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She is board certified in pediatrics and anesthesiology having completed pediatrics residency in the Boston Combined Residency Program at Boston Children's Hospital and Boston Medical Center in 2017 and anesthesia residency at Hospital of University of Pennsylvania in 2020. She graduated from Sidney Kimmel Medical College (formerly Jefferson Medical College) in 2014 and prior to that graduated from Yale College, where she received a B.A. in English and was part of the Teacher Preparation Program. Between college and medical school, she lived in Costa Rica, where she predominantly surfed, bartended, taught English and played poker (with some intriguing personalities who imparted lasting life lessons). Following that, she moved to New York City where she competed for the Nike Central Park Track Club while working for a start-up company. She became interested in traumatic brain injury while working in Dr. Todd Kilbaugh's lab as an anesthesiology resident at Penn. The combination of Dr. Kilbaugh's mentorship and her experiences in the PICU at CHOP have only strengthened her desire to research mechanisms and therapeutics to improve outcomes for patients who experience TBI. Vanessa hails from Boston, where she grew up and remains a rabid lover of Boston sports teams.
