Associate Professor of Critical Care Medicine
University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center
Houston, Texas
Dr. Cristina Gutierrez is an Associate Professor of Critical Care Medicine at MD Anderson Cancer Center. She finished medical school in the Universidad La Sabana in Colombia and moved to the United States to complete her Internal Medicine residency, followed by a Critical Care fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. It was this experience that introduced her to the complexities of care of the critically ill oncological patient. After practicing in New York for three years, she moved to Houston to join MD Anderson where she could pursue her two passions: research and patient care. Her research efforts are mainly focused on evaluating the effects of immune based therapies, their complications, and implications of their use in critically ill patients. She’s been the principal investigator in more than fourteen studies, all of which have led to important publications. She continues to lead and prioritize research efforts within the US in the area of oncological critical care and hopes to reach a larger Critical Care community to improve the management of these patients.
