Dr. Davidson joined SCCM in 1990 to participate in co-authoring the first guidelines for sedation and neuromuscular blockade after developing the first nurse protocol for use of peripheral nerve stimulation. Since then she has been an active member to the Society serving as co-author to the pain agitation and delirium guidelines and chairperson of the 2007 and 2017 family-centered care guidelines writing groups. Dr. Davidson holds a long legacy of interest in family response to critical illness and developed a midrange theory Facilitated Sensemaking to guide the care of families at the bedside. She hchaired both the Ethics and Patient/Family Education committees and was principally responsible for the development of the SCCM Family-Centered Care award designed to elevate standards through exposure of best and novel practices. Her research now focuses on workplace wellness and specifically suicide among healthcare professionals. As a matter of workplace wellness and patient safety, she gathered a group of volunteers to conduct the controversial studies exploring the impact of The Joint Commission medication management standards restricting nursing practice of titrating medications. Today she will be interviewed about these activities in this Luminary Lounge session.
