Bret Alvis, MD is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, an adjunct Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Vanderbilt University, and a Staff Anesthesiologist and Intensivist at the TVHS-VA in Nashville, TN. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from the University of Iowa, and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. He completed in anesthesiology residency and critical care fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) in 2014. He is board certified in anesthesiology and critical care medicine. Right out of training, he joined the faculty with the Department of Anesthesiology at VUMC and became faculty at TVHS-VA in 2015. Dr. Alvis serves as the Associate as the Associate Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. He also serves as the medical director for the Perioperative Care Service at the TVHS-VA since conception in 2015. Dr. Alvis also leads and performs NIH funded translational research in the area of venous waveform analysis to better understand volume states and the respiratory condition.
