Dr Claire Murphy completed her PharmD at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 2006 and residency training at Barnes Jewish Hospital in 2008. She has worked at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center as a clinical pharmacist in the surgical, burn, trauma intensive care unit for 13 years, and was promoted to the Lead Specialty Practice Pharmacist for critical care in 2017. In her current role, Dr. Murphy oversees strategic planning for critical care pharmacy, coordinates recruitment and retention processes, and provides leadership to the critical care clinical pharmacy team.
Dr. Murphy is passionate about optimizing patient outcomes, and is therefore committed to education and research in critical care. She serves as a preceptor for the pharmacy residency and critical care advanced practice provider fellowship programs, lectures at the College of Pharmacy, and coordinates the health system Interprofessional Critical Care Education Series. She received numerous awards from the College of Pharmacy and Department of Pharmacy recognizing her commitment to education. Dr. Murphy is well-published, with over 60 peer-reviewed publications and four peer-reviewed book chapters. Her research has significantly impacted patient care in the areas of glycemic management, pain control, and multi-drug resistant infections.
In addition to her institutional service, Dr. Murphy is involved in critical care societies at the regional and national levels. She is a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine and is an active member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, currently service as the Chair-Elect for the Current Concepts in Critical Care Medicine, Adult Committee. She served as Secretary of the Ohio Chapter of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and is currently the President-Elect.
