Muhammad Umair Mukhtar Mian M.B:B.S is a foriegn medical graduate from Pakistan who is currently a clinical fellow PGY-6 in department of Pediatric Critical Care at Texas Childrens' Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas. His scholarly interests include Liver ICU, acute Liver failure and liver transplantaion in children. He is a motivated in-training fellow at a large, quaternary referral center care center with a dedicated liver intensive care unit where they see a high volume of critically ill patients with end stage liver diseases often with extra-hepatic organ failure. ICU management of children, especially those who have co-morbidities and multisystem organ failure before and in the immediate post transplant phase is challenging as many children may require prolonged respiratory support in the form of mechanical ventilation and may sometimes need tracheostomy for rehabilitation and advancing medical care. His research has given an opportunity to understand these peri-operative risk factors and his future goal is to develop the scores for prediction of prolonged mechanical ventilation and to address modifiable risk factors for prevention of prolonged mechanical ventilation after liver transplantation in children. His long term golas include to make advancements in critical care after pediatric liver transplantation.
