I am Yidi Qin, a third-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Human Genetics with the track of bioinformatics at the University of Pittsburgh. I also own an M.S. degree in biostatistics from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor’s degree in biology from China Agricultural University. During my Ph.D. program, I have been working as a Graduate Student Researchers with Dr. Hyun Jung Park and Dr. Carcillo Joseph since 2019. Over the past two years, our research mainly focused on understanding the heterogeneity and genetic basis of pediatric sepsis. Though leveraging clinical information from patients, we developed a subtyping system to assist clinicians better in assigning patients to pediatric sepsis phenotypes derived from the unsupervised clustering method. In order to uncover the genetic basis of the disorder, we also made use of whole-exome sequencing data to identify rare variants or genes associated with phenotypes related to pediatric sepsis. Moreover, by integrating transcriptomic data into analysis, we are involving in the work of prognostic signatures discovery. Additionally, I have been collaborating with other groups with various backgrounds, including oncologists from St. Jude Hospital, Computational biologists from Carnegie Mellon University, Scientists from the University of Utah, to develop methods for patient care and treatment.
