Lauren Alessi, MD, is a Pediatric Intensivist at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital of Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Human Development at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Dr. Alessi attended Stony Brook School of Medicine where she earned her medical degree. She completed her residency in Pediatrics at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, after which she began her career as a Pediatric Hospitalist in the Paul C. Gaffney Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine during which time she received the Chair's Discretion Fund award as one of top ten teachers in the Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Alessi then continued her training in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, completing her fellowship at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, during which time she served as Chief Fellow. Her clinical interests include neurocritical care, transport medicine, and trauma. Her research interests include rehabilitation after intensive care and medical education focusing on curriculum development, simulation, and transitions of care.
