Dr. Carlie Myers is a third year pediatric critical care fellow at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore Maryland. She completed her pediatric residency training at Children’s National in Washington, DC and her medical education at Florida Atlantic University College of Medicine. Her success at the bedside is fueled by her connection with and dedication to serving her surrounding community, particularly those pediatric patients who are underserved or face inequity in accessing critical medical care. Dr. Myers’ scholarly activities are grounded in commitment to equity in healthcare delivery, including quality, safety, and community health. Currently, Dr. Myers has made significant progress in designing and conducting two research projects during her pediatric critical care fellowship. Her primary fellowship project examining the inequities of Johns Hopkins Hospital pediatric ICU resource utilization is emblematic of her drive to bridge the fields of health care disparities, patient safety and quality improvement science, and business expertise in resource utilization. Dr. Myers’ personal and professional mission is to improve patient safety and reduce health care disparities while optimizing resource utilization. In addition to Dr. Myers’ clinical and scholarly activities, she has actively sought administrative leadership responsibilities during fellowship. She currently serves as the fellow representative on the Johns Hopkins PICU safety, quality, and logistics committee. Her leadership extends beyond the critical care unit, as she served as the Vice Chair of Quality and Safety of the Johns Hopkins Clinical Fellows Council. Nationally, Dr. Myers was nominated and selected to serve a two-year term for the ACGME Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) Committee beginning the summer of 2021. As a current recipient of an SCCM STAR Achievement Research Award, Dr. Myers will to continue her commitment to research and scholarship collaborating with SCCM members active in diversity and equity initiatives.
