Aaron W. Knopp, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP is an emergency medicine clinical pharmacy specialist at Rhode Island Hospital (RIH) in Providence, Rhode Island. He obtained his doctor of pharmacy degree with Spanish concentration from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Aaron's diverse experience during pharmacy school included studying abroad in Spain, an advanced pharmacy practice elective in the United Kingdom, and a medical mission trip to Guatemala. Following graduation, he moved from his home state of Pennsylvania for a first-year post-graduate pharmacy practice residency and second-year critical care pharmacy residency, both at Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH). He was recognized as the STAR first year resident at YNHH and also awarded in the state of Connecticut second and first place, respectively, for his research projects regarding hyperosmolar therapies and fondaparinux anti-Xa monitoring. Following his first year of residency, Aaron achieved recognition by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties as a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist (BCPS) and most recently as a board certified critical care pharmacist (BCCCP). During his time at YNHH, Aaron served as chief pharmacy resident and participated in research observing health-system antiplatelet utilization for acute coronary syndromes, hyperosmotic therapies for elevated intracranial pressure, albumin use optimization through pharmacist stewardship, and fondaparinux safety, efficacy, and monitoring in acutely ill patients with renal insufficiency. He recently transitioned to his role as emergency medicine pharmacy specialist at RIH to expand pharmacist presence at the state's only level 1 trauma center. Aaron's interests include traumatic and sepsis rescicitation, analgesia/sedation, and anticoagulation management. In his free time, he enjoys the outdoors, traveling, and being surrounded by friends and family.
