Michael T. Bigham, MD, FAAP, FCCM is a Pediatric Critical Care Physician and the first Chief Quality Officer at Akron Children’s Hospital. Dr. Bigham's clinical and research interests include Sepsis and Critical Care Transport. Dr. Bigham continues to work clinically in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, though more of his time is spent setting strategies and supporting key quality initiatives for the Akron Children’s enterprise. His quality interests include domains of safety, health equity, quality benchmarking, peer review, and patient/family experience. Specific to safety, Dr. Bigham is focused on reducing patient harm, including hospital-acquired conditions. Dr. Bigham’s energy in pursuit of continuous improvement comes from a singular focus - improving the health and healthcare of children. Aside from his Akron Children’s Hospital responsibilities, Dr. Bigham is the co-founder of the largest critical care transport medicine quality improvement collaborative (GAMUT Quality Improvement Collaborative) which has been widely adopted as an indispensable mechanism to accelerate quality improvement in the field of critical care transport.
