Dr. Jason Heavner is Chair of the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Dr. Heavner received his medical degree from University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed Residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. As an academic attending physician and medical director of an intensive care unit, Dr. Heavner has experience with new technology implementation, education and supervision of trainees, and programmatic development. He has extensive expertise with percutaneous bedside procedures in the intensive care unit including percutaneous tracheostomy placement. He successfully implemented several novel methods of care delivery including a new model of critical care delivery, created novel education models for physician trainees, and launched the ultrasound-guided percutaneous gastric tube program discussed in this lecture.
