Pediatric Critical Care Global Health Fellow
University of Maryland School of Medicine
Baltimore, MD
My name is Michael Lintner-Rivera. I completed my Pediatric Critical Care fellowship at Phoenix Children's Hospital this past July. Following my pediatric critical care training I accepted a position as a Pediatric Critical Care Global Health fellow through the University of Maryland. I spent the first six months completing a critical care ultrasound fellowship at Western University in London, ON. Currently, I am in Blantyre, Malawi providing critical care to patients randomized as part of a NIH-funded cerebral malaria research project.
I grew up in Nicaragua and moved to the United States following high school. I attended the University of Washington for undergrad. I completed my medical school and Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residency at the University of Illinois, Peoria. Following residency I worked for four years, mostly as a Med-Peds hospitalist in Colorado, prior to going back for PCCM fellowship. Within peds critical care I have a strong interest in POCUS, global health, fluid management and shock.
Outside of medicine I am a practitioner of capoeira angola, which is an Afro-Brazilian art form and ritualized form of fighting. That is how I met my lovely wife. We are the proud parents of two incredible children ages 8 and 7. My family has traveled with me to Malawi and we are having an incredible time thus far. Additionally, I enjoy traveling, mountain biking, hiking, and reading good non-fiction.
