MarĂa Teresa Lira, Nurse and Midwife, FPCNA, Cardiovascular Specialist and Researcher, 61 y. old, has always been a passionate Nurse, caring for others with love and diligence, studying and collecting data through research studies, looking for excellence in nursing care.
The development of her professional practice, in different areas, has been marked by the search for scientific evidence to implement changes or improvements in nursing care holistic management, critical care clinical practice, nursing school professor and researcher in the fields of cardiovascular epidemiology and risk factor management, MV weaning, ICU delirium management, transcultural adaptation of health tools and breast cancer, lately in the role of deep learning in breast images for breast cancer risk prediction.
Her main international contributions have been sharing successful experiences of Nursing CV care in restraint resources environments, adapting good quality educational material for Spanish speaking population, one of the authors of the ESC new Nursing Textbook and being part of nursing leaders to involve and mobilize the international community of nurses in cardiovascular health care.
Due to her experience and trajectory, she has been appointed (ad honorem) as member of organizer committees of the World Heart Federation (WHF) and the International Council of Nurses (ICN) Congresses as well as abstract reviewer of the European Society ESC), WHF, ICN and tutor/ mentor of young nurses (CCNAP).
She has been awarded with significant recognitions such as Congress abstract awards, the Terry Thomas Clinical Practice Award, the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association Advocacy Award and as a Nurse with Global Impact 2020 (UN) honoree.
At this stage of her professional life, she considers very relevant to make her knowledge and experience available to other nurses and allied health professionals, to achieve their own goals of excellence in caring.
