Dr. Heda Dapul is an Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. She is a pediatric intensivist and also serves as the medical director of the Pediatric ICU at Hassenfeld Children's Hospital at NYU Langone in New York City.
Her research interests span the field of Pediatric Neurocritical Critical Care, having initially done basic science research on Traumatic brain injury in fellowship and now doing clinical research into Non-invasive neuromonitoring. She is currently investigating the utility of Cerebral Near-infrared Spectroscopy as an adjunct monitor for cerebral oxygenation in pediatric patients with a variety of critical illnesses.
Dr. Dapul has also pursued several Quality Improvement projects over the years, including the design and implementation of hand-off tools to improve multidisciplinary communication, as well as the implementation of protocols to reduce the incidence of unplanned extubations in the Pediatric ICU. She currently serves as the regional HAC leader for PICU Unplanned Extubations for the Solutions for Patients' Safety (SPS Network) in the New York region.
Most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has become an opportunity for research within the pediatric critical care field. Dr. Dapul is the NYU site PI for the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM)’s VIRUS Registry on COVID-19.
Dr. Dapul received her medical degree (cum laude) from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines. She completed her residency training in Pediatrics at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, followed by fellowship training in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.
