Heather is a graduate of Birmingham Southern College, where she obtained her BS in Biology and Psychology in 2003. She continued her education at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing where she obtained her MSN in Acute Care in 2005. She recently graduated from the Doctorate of Nursing Practice Program at Vanderbilt School of Nursing where she focused on exectuive leadership and clinical nursing educaiton. Her research interests include ending burnout by teaching resiliency techniques to new graduate nurse practitioners as well as workforce development.
Heather is a surgical critical care nurse practitioner at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia and is the founding Co-Director of the APP Critical Care Fellowship Program. Additionally, she has served as faculty at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory Univiersty.
Heather is actively involved in many national organizations including the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the Association of Post Graduate APRN programs. She has received fellowship designations in both the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Heather has held many leadership positions within these national organizations. Heather served as a founding executive board member and first president of the Association of Post Graduate APRN programs. Leadership roles within the Society of Critical Care Medicine have including Co-Chair for Program Planning, Chair of the Graduate Resident Education Committee, Member at Large for the Nursing Section Steering Committee and Chair of Communications for the Nursing Section.
