Dr. Smith is Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He is active in both undergraduate medical education (UME) and graduate medical education (GME). In UME, Dr. Smith has directed the cardiovascular, pulmonary and renal foundational science course during the preclinical years and a capstone critical care course for fourth-year medical students. He also directs the Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship. Dr. Smith earned his undergraudate degree from Northwestern University and his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He completed general pediatrics and pediatric critical care training at the University of Utah. He has previously worked as a general pediatrician in Pocatello, Idaho, a hospitalist at Primary Children's Hospital and as a member of the Pediatric AIDS Corps in Lilongwe, Malawi. He is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care. In addition to education, Dr. Smith's scholarly interests focus on implementing pediatric critical care in low resource settings.
