Valerie Danesh, PhD, RN, FCCM is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Texas at Austin and a Research Scientist at Baylor Scott & White Health. Dr. Danesh is a critical care nurse and health services researcher. Her current research is on nurse-led surveillance, with an emphasis on escalations of care due to the onset of critical illness. Beyond the hospital setting, the sequelae of critical illness can persist following hospital discharge, with long-term physical, cognitive, and psychological effects (post-intensive care syndrome). Dr. Danesh’s work in the monitoring and surveillance of critically ill patients extends into the post-ICU recovery period, to develop, deliver, and test self-management interventions tailored to survivors of critical illness.
